a very weird weekend indeed...
Tonite after work, i gather together the few remaining odds/ends, and hit the road bound for Bushnell/Marietta Illinois, just slightly west of the proverbial Middle Of Nowhere, my purpose being to spend the 4th of July weekend at the Cornerstone Music and Art Festival, sometimes called "The Christian Woodstock".....somewhere around 150 bands will be there, playing nearly every sort of music you can name, as well as tons of other fun things to do.....our church's elder youth group left yesterday morning, but i had to work, so can't leave until tonite...will get in pretty late, and don't care about it one bit...i'm a veteran camper and hiker, and every nite i get to sleep in a tent is ok with me....i'm hoping to get to see P.O.D., and possibly Switchfoot...as well as a lot of new stuff that'll help me decide which cds to buy in the future.....the scotts want to see Demon Hunter; me, i don't know about that particular band....musically they're fine, but that style of "singing" just doesn't do anything for me....i also plan to go and watch my eldest son do the rockclimbing wall....i doubt i'll get up the guts to try it myself, but it'd be fun to watch anyway....
I'm taking the bike i got for father's day...imagine my surprise when i saw the name schwinn on the rack at wally world....i'd thought schwinn was long gone....when i was a kid, schwinn was it, but they sort of faded away....now, it seems, they're back hard and heavy....mine is an import model called a a skyliner...it's sorta retro looking, but fits me real well...21 speeds (like anyone needs 21 speeds), and i got a nice bell gel pad for the seat so my tender tushy doesn't protest....it's going to come in handy for H20 runs, and for getting around if my heel spur acts up...Cornerstone's a 550 acre chunk of real estate, and while i adore walking, walking with a heel spur can be a real drag....doc's got me on Lodine xl for it, and i have an appointment with a podiatrist for after the fest, but i still have some trouble here and there...i did manage to get an rx called in for a bigger dose of the Lodine, so with a little luck, and God's kind regard, i ought to be ok.....
On the subject of the Cornerstone grounds, i'm told it's a former pig farm....how does a 550 acre pig farm become the site for a Christian festival?....dont' ask me, because i've no clue....their website doesn't go into much detail, other than to warn you several times about the high bacteria content of the mud....goody, eh?...and there'll be mud....the forecast looks spotty, as is to be expected in the midwest in early july...some clouds, some sun, some rain, you know...the ususal....job #1 has to to get as much seam seal as possible into the threads on The Nylon Condo as quickly as possible, because it is one leaky tent....if i didn't need the additional room, and the ability to be able to stand up inside the tent, i'd go with a smaller one, but then I'm 46 and not in the best shape right now...the shape's improving, but it takes time, and the here and now says i gotta have some space in there....that, and queen size air beds take up a lot of room....yeah, i know, i'm a puss....sue me.....
